24 years of Fear Of A Black Planet
On April 10, 1990; Public Enemy released their third studio album, Fear Of a Black Planet.
The album considered by many as the magnum opus of hip-hop recordings, would sell one million copies in its first week.
Fear Of A Black Planet influenced by Dr. Frances Cress Welsing’s 1970’s essay The Cress Theory Of Color – Confrontation And Racism (White Supremacy).
Fear Of A Black Planet was the last album produced solely by the original Bomb Squad team consisting of Hank and Keith Shocklee, Eric “Vietnam” Sadler and Public Enemy leader Chuck D.

Released on March 27th, 1984; Run-DMC has been regarded by music writers as one of early hip hop's best albums and a landmark release of the new school hip hop movement in the 1980s.

Celebrating 25 years of Three Feet High And Rising
I remember this tape being passed around the school yard. All the kids who were into music were geeing out about the debut album from Long Island's De La Soul. When it was my chance to listen to the album, I remember my life changing as soon as I pushed play. I didn't understand it at the time, but this album would help shape my musical taste in the coming years. The Native tongue family became the litmus test that I would compare everything else to in Hip Hop.
From the opening skit making me wonder how many feathers are on a Perdue chicken, to wanting to know more about Hall & Oates thanks to Say No Go, and wanting to form a buddy line and having a Buddy; to the magical 3-sided record of Me, Myself & I; 3 Feet High & Rising has left it's imprint on my life. Thank you De La Soul.

The College Dropout celebrates its 10 year anniversary
Say what you want about Kanye West, but its hard to argue with College Dropout. Released February 10, 2004; College Dropout is still a masterpiece 10 years later. I would talk people into submission about the perfection of this album. Its production made me hunt for the originals. The lyrics were a look into Kanye's Soul, raw and untainted by fame & fortune.
Receiving 10 Grammy nominations, I did my first homage to Kanye, immediately after he won the Grammy for Best Rap Album in 2005.
This is one of my favourite mixes that I have done and hope that it can help you see through all the bullshit & drama and appreciate Kanye's art:
Happy Anniversary Kanye & College Dropout.

Marauding 20 years strong
Like all other ATCQ albums, Midnight Marauders is considered a Hip Hop classic and is a benchmark album from one of the most respected and influential groups of all time.
A critical & commercial success, the third album from A Tribe Called Quest shifted its attention to more urban concerns, but still touched on typical Hip Hop subjects such as racial issues and sexual tension.

Enter The Wu-Tang celebrates 20 years
Released on November 9, 1993, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), was the debut album from Shaolin's Finest, the legendary Wu-Tang Clan.
The distinctive sound of Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) created a blueprint for hardcore hip hop during the 1990s and helped return New York City hip hop to national prominence. Its influence helped lead the way for several other East Coast hip hop artists, including Nas, The Notorious B.I.G., Mobb Deep, and Jay-Z.
Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is regarded by some music writers as one of the most significant albums of the 1990s, as well as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. In 2003, the album was ranked number 386 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

15 years of Aquemini
Celebrating it's 15th anniversary, Outkast's third studio album; Aquemini; is an album that was adored by critics & fans. Included in many top album lists, including Blender's 500 CDs You Must Own Before You Die; Aquemini was certified platinum in November 1998, only two months after its release, and was certified double platinum on July 2, 1999 by the Recording Industry Association of America. Released on September 29th, 1998; the album peaked at #2 on both the Billboard 200 and the Top R&B/Hip-Hop charts.
Rosa Parks & Skew It on The Bar-B were hit singles from the album, but it's SpottieOttieDopaliscious that seals the deal. One of my personal favourite(s), SpottieOttieDopaliscious features horns and spoken word verses from Andre & Big Boi. The song is ranked at number 16 on Pitchfork Media's list of the top 200 tracks of the 90s.

De La Soul's Buhloone Mindstate: 20 Years Later
By 1993, De la Soul had etched their place in Hip Hop history. Their first two albums, 3 Feet High & Rising and De La Soul Is Dead had made their mark and are considered some of the greatest albums of all time. Their 3rd album, Buhloone Mindstate, may not have been as commercially successful as the albums before it, but after 20 years, its time to give credit where credit is due and award the monicker of classic to this album as well.
Released on September 21, 1993; Buhloone Mindstate was a refusal to change their style of music for anyone else, even if it were to become popular. It contains DLS classics like Breakadawn & Ego Trippin' Part Two.
The album was arguable more cohesive than its predecessors and showed some maturity from the group. It may have taken me 20 years to follow suit, but upon listening to this album today, not only is an audio time capsule to my later high school years, but its timeless. It's jazzy production and deep lyricism keeps the deepest of hip hop heads in audio bliss.

Get Rich Or Die Tryin' Celebrates 10 years
Wow. Time flies...
It seems not to long ago when you could drop any track from Get Rich Or Die Tryin' and EVERYONE in the club would know the words. 10 years have passed since we first heard the opening intro of 2 quarters hitting the table, followed by the banging first few beats of What Up Gangsta.
Although 50 Cent was no rookie when he dropped Get Rich Or Die Tryin'; it is the album that made him a household name. It's ranked at #12 on Billboard magazine's Top 200 Albums of the Decade and as of January 2011, has sold eight million copies in the US, making it the fourth best-selling hip hop album in the US. Not to mention it's nomination for Best Rap Album at the 46th Grammy Awards.
