Happy Birthday J Dilla

Today (Feb 7, 2013) would have been James Yancey's 40th birthday. Known to most as J Dilla, James was one of the most creative producers to have ever put a beat together. His work with A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, The Pharcyde, Common & others; is legendary.

It's been 8 years since Dilla passed away, and his music and life still touch me & many others in the music industry every day. Thank you James for the inspiration and creativity. You changed our lives.

RIP J Dilla (February 7, 1974 – February 10, 2006)

5 Years ago, the world lost one of music's most creative producers. J Dilla (aka Jay Dee) passed away due to complications from Lupus on Feruary 10th, 2006.

James Dewitt Yancey is regarded as one of Hip Hop's most profound & prolific producers. Often dubbed "your favorite producer's favorite producer," Dilla brought an uncomplicated soul to his production that has still yet to be duplicated by other producers.

He is still missed and there is still a void in the hearts of all that loved him.

New J Dilla album: Jay Stay Paid

J Dilla is the 2Pac of producers. Even after his passing, he still has plenty of songs being released.
The latest project being Jay Stay Paid on Nature Sounds. The album is a 28 track collection of unreleased Dilla beats mixed & arranged by Pete Rock. Most of the album is instrumentals although there are a couple guests vocals from artists like Black Thought, Havoc, Raekwon, MF Doom, and M.O.P.
Jay Stay Paid is in stores now.

With the birthday & death of "your favorite producer's favorite producer" this week, it only seems fitting to pay tribute to J. Dilla (aka Jay Dee).
