Happy Birthday J Dilla
Today (Feb 7, 2013) would have been James Yancey's 40th birthday. Known to most as J Dilla, James was one of the most creative producers to have ever put a beat together. His work with A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, The Pharcyde, Common & others; is legendary.
It's been 8 years since Dilla passed away, and his music and life still touch me & many others in the music industry every day. Thank you James for the inspiration and creativity. You changed our lives.

Happy Birthday to Stevie Wonder! May 13, 2013 marks the 63rd birthday of the singer/songwriter. A prominent figure in popular music during the latter half of the 20th century, Wonder has recorded more than thirty U.S. top ten hits and won twenty-two Grammy Awards (the most ever won by a solo artist) as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also been inducted into both the Rock and Roll and Songwriters halls of fame. Rolling Stone named him the ninth greatest singer of all time. In 2009, Wonder was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace. In 2008, Billboard magazine released a list of the Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists to celebrate the US singles chart's fiftieth anniversary, with Wonder at number five.

Happy Birthday Biggie Smalls
Today would have been the 40th birthday of one of the greatest MCs of all time. Christopher Wallace, aka The Notorious B.I.G. was born May 21, 1972. 15 years after his death, in an industry that quickly forgets artists months after their best single has been played to death on radio and in the clubs; Biggie Smalls is still remembered and cherished by not only music fans but so many other artists who looked up to Biggie and were fans themselves.
Arguably, one of the best MCs ever; we'll always love Big Poppa.

The Diamond In The Rough: The New Jack Swing Session
As Teddy Riley celebrates his 41st birthday; psychology pays tribute to the genre of music he helped make popular: New Jack Swing.
New Jack Swing is a hybrid style popular from the late-1980s into the mid-1990s, which fuses the rhythms, samples and production techniques of hip-hop with the urban contemporary sound of R&B. The new jack swing style developed as many previous R&B styles did, by combining elements of older styles with newer trends. It uses mellifluously soulful solo or harmonizing vocals sung over rhythms and "street" beats derived from urban musical influences. The sound of new jack swing comes from the hip hop "swing" beats created by drum machine, and hardware samplers, which was popular during the golden age of hip hop, with contemporary R&B style singing.

He has become a cultral icon due to his musical influence as his story telling & rhyme flow are still copied today, 12 years after his death.
